“Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment.”
Montserrat Povill Pacheco
THE MONTESSORI SCHOOL OF MALLORCA DIRECTOR
My name is Montserrat Povill Pacheco, and I am the director and owner of the Montessori School of Mallorca.
I care passionately about children and their education. As a professional, I can draw upon 20 years of experience working first as a teacher and later as a manager with UNICEF, the children’s organization of the United Nations, in Africa, Asia and America. I hold a Master’s degree in English Philology and a Master’s degree in Political Science.
As a mother, Montessori is simply the kind of education that I want for my children. That is why after moving to Mallorca with my family, I decided to set up an independent and, for the moment, only Montessori school on the island.
My interest in education is deeply rooted: I was literally born and brought up in a school. My grandfather, the Catalan writer Joan Povill i Adserà, and grandmother founded a small school in Catalonia in 1934.
My parents, Jordi and Mariví, have continued their calling, and enlarged and modernized the building and modernized the teachings. Today I am
a part-owner of the Escola Povill, a primary and secondary school with 500 pupils in my home town of Olesa de Montserrat, which is now run by my brothers Joan as the school’s director and Xavi as the administrator.
